So last month while we were visiting my Grandma in PA, Michael noticed that Skye was calling me "Tatie." He thought it was hilarious, as did my mother. I, however, was not so amused.
I know that a lot of people call their parents by their first name, and it's cool with them. For me, though, it's a respect thing. My parents are Momma and Daddy - always have been, always will be. My children will always call me "Mom" or "Mommy" or "Momma," whichever they prefer. So when my daughter started calling me by my first name, I freaked out! Especially since Skye needs to learn respect. Currently she thinks it's funny to slap, scratch, bite, smack, hit and pull. If anyone has tips on disciplining a one-year-old, bring it on!
I guess it makes sense because everyone in my family calls me "Katie," so why would she call me anything else? I guess I'm just going to have to start going by "Mom." Maybe that's why elderly men call their wives "Mother." That always puzzled me before. I actually thought it was kind of weird, but it makes sense now.
Anyway, yesterday when I was strapping her into her car seat to go to Nanna's house, she whispered "Tay-tay." It was kind of sweet and almost endearing the way that she looking up at me with those big blue eyes, but I leaned down and whispered back, "You can call me Mom." I think she got the point... ;)*
So I guess I can just get over the fact that Skye calls me "Tay-tay" for now. I'm just happy that she's calling me something! I don't think that it will be long before she's speaking real words and phrases. She's a little chatter-box right now. She just walks around blabbering in her baby-talk. It's pretty much adorable!
* I've become a e-winker. I know that it's totally annoying, but I can't help it! There's just something so cute about a little wink. I'm not a real-life winker. Those people freak me out. I knew an Arbonne lady who winked all the time, and I thought it was weird. At least I e-wink when it's appropriate. This lady was just casually letting the winks fly. That's just not cool, man.

My cousin's girl called her "Abby" for the longest time. So she had EVERYONE call her Mommy until Kassidy got the point. ;)
